Francesca Varrie Michel
Francesca Varrie Michel is a passionate Actress born in Cape Town, South Africa. She has recently attended The Durban International Film Festival for the South African Premiere of the feature film High Fantasy, where she plays the role of Lexi Conradie and formed part of the writing and filming collaborative process. The film Won Best South African Feature Film, as well as The Artistic Bravery Award. She also attended the Berlinale Film Festival in February 2018 for the film's European sold out Premiere. Francesca and her cast also attended The International Film Festival 2017 (TIFF 2017) for the sold out World Premiere of High Fantasy.
Francesca was awarded Best Actress at the 48 Hour Film Project in Cape Town in 2016 for Just Breathe, You're Alright by Kelly Powell & Thea Small. Francesca has since appeared in Charlie Brooker's latest season of Black Mirror (2016); in National Geographic's Origins: The Journey of Humankind (2017) and recently guest starred in Sandy Johnson's The Indian Detective (2017) alongside Russell Peters. Francesca plays the role of Lexi (Lead) in a South African local Feature Film: High Fantasy, directed by Jenna Bass, and proudly admits that it was the most challenging and rewarding experience to date.
She graduated with a BA Theatre and Performance Degree at the University of Cape Town in 2014. After graduating from the University of Cape Town, Francesca Michel threw herself into the theatre industry and performed in her first professional production "Curl Up and Dye" by Sue Pam-Grant, directed by Christopher Weare. She went on to perform in a two-hander theatre production with her fellow actor and stand-up comedian, Schalk Bezuidenhout, in an adaptation of Christopher Durang's "Laughing Wild," directed by Luke Ellenbogen.
