Honora Bowen
Honora Bowen is an American actress, singer, athlete, and activist. She was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in New York and Vermont as a ski racer and avid snowboarder. She began studying theatre and modeling at age 7 in New York. After moving out on her own during high school, Honora turned down a scholarship to the University of Vermont for theatre and opera and instead moved to Japan at age 17 to pursue the Japanese language and martial arts including Kendou and Kyudou. She then moved west and became a professional nude model for a rock climbing publication known as Stone Nudes. She has climbed all over the world as well as with professional athletes like the late Dean Potter.
Honora also is the originator of the lettuce bikini which was later donned by PETA activists, after creating a lettuce bikini for an event on Copper Mountain, Colorado, snowboarding in it, and being interviewed by multiple international television networks such as MTV in 2005. She has a degree in performing arts, is a nationally certified massage therapist and energy worker, and a certified medicinal wildcrafter and herbalist. She has appeared as an extra in Always Sunny in Philadelphia and participates in live theatre and singing performances.
Honora is a feminist through and through and has spoken out about her experience with Discovery and the show Naked and Afraid after being manipulated by the producers, as well as sexually assaulted by one of them. She hopes that one day the entertainment industry can reflect a positively changed society where women are equal to men. She also is a steadfast supporter of animal rights and activism and is working on spreading consciousness to issues such as animal abuse. You can read about her experiences and projects via her WordPress blog for more information.
