Lawrence Smilgys
Lawrence was born a first generation American, the son of Eastern European World War II refugees. He began his artistic training in the theater department at Santa Monica College and earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida, after which he returned to LA and began studying with legendary character actor Allan Rich (Serpico, Quiz Show, Disclosure, Amistad!) Lawrence has appeared in numerous films, episodic television shows and commercials. He is also a veteran of the LA stage scene and has appeared in over 40 plays. After belonging to several theatre companies, the RMRTC, the West Coast Ensemble, the Kentwood Players, Lawrence and long time theatre comrade, David Meiselman launched the American Latino Theatre in 2008, which has produced critically acclaimed theater productions as well as brought several theatrical productions for children into economically depressed neighborhoods. Lawrence works with Boricua Films and is the screenwriter and producer of the feature film Strike One , starring Danny Trejo, which is now in world wide distribution. He is also an accomplished fine arts painter and martial artist instructor, with over 20 year of teaching experience.
