Miyoko Sakatani
Miyoko Sakatani (EMC/SAG-AFTRA eligible) is an actor~singer, writer, director and executive producer of Playland Productions (playlandproductions.com) which she launched in 2017. She has performed on many SF Bay Area stages over many years. She has had roles in numerous short films, commercials, web series and award winning feature films with domestic and international screenings including "East Side Sushi" distributed through Samuel Goldwyn Mayer/Sony Entertainment and "100 Blocks" which is available on platforms such as iTunes, Amazon and HBO. She has been a background actor on Hulu, Netflix and Amazon series and has voice over and broadcast experience on local TV. Miyoko has written and performed her own solo piece "I'll Look Up As I Walk," about her family's immigration and WWII internment history at the Marsh Theatre. She performs gratuitously for residential care facilities with a touring musical comedy troupe and a Bay Area ukulele band. She has been an ESL tutor and a volunteer mentor through the Boys and Girls Club, the Big Brother/Big Sister program and for the Oakland Unified School District. She also participates in the SF Chinatown Rotary Service Club with her husband Richard with food distribution and global clean up projects. In her spare time she is a mixed media mosaic artist, a vegetarian cook, a sea kayaker, and a devoted practitioner of yoga, Tai Chi and meditation. Before pursuing a career in acting, Miyoko founded the Independent Nurses Association, East Bay, a non-profit nursing organization. Originally a critical care nurse, she later began a practice in biofeedback and earned a Naturopathic Doctor degree. A guest lecturer at various nursing and health conferences, Miyoko was one of the first continuing education providers in the Bay Area teaching critical care and mind-body medicine.
